Recently, given that everyone has been confined to their houses for well over a year, content creators are relying on methods that don’t require their physical presence. Podcasts are a medium that’s been gaining a lot of popularity lately, since they can be recorded from anywhere, with multiple contributors all located remotely. In fact, one of our own team members also released a great podcast recently! Meanwhile, the rest of us have been listening to some other interesting podcasts, read on if you want to find some new content to tune in to!
We have a lot of women on our team, so it shouldn’t come as a surprise that we listen to podcasts by powerful and inspiring women to help us navigate some of the challenges we face.
Pretty Big Deal with Ashley Graham
“Ashley is a supermodel and body activist who sits down with inspiring women to learn about their journey.
The conversations on the podcast are meaningful and inspiring. Since it’s woman led, the podcast does a great job at talking about relevant and important topics for the young modern woman. The podcast is easy to listen to while you are doing your chores or working out.” – Arzoo Sattikar
The Michelle Obama Podcast
“I don’t listen to very many podcasts, but love playing this one whenever I’m out for a walk! I’ve always loved the Obamas (you can’t not), especially Michelle for setting a strong example as a female role model. She addresses a variety of topics and issues in her podcast like gender, race and familial issues, each episode giving a unique insight into her life.” – Pooja Kulkarni
While we’re talking about the Obamas, politics and history are two topics covered by a wide variety of podcasts, each with their own angle and focus. It’s hard to choose our favorites, but here are a couple that we love!
The Seen and Unseen by Amit Mehra
“The Seen and Unseen is a weekly interview based podcast that deep-dives into a broad range of topics which includes socio-political issues, history, public policy, etc. The episodes approach topics with the belief that to understand a concept fully, you need to grasp both corresponding aspects: the seen and the unseen. Would definitely recommend an episode every Monday morning.” – Nishant Bidichandani
History Extra
“History Extra covers every possible historical event you can think of, from ancient wars and empires, to more recent subjects like the space race and the growth of Hollywood. The podcast even addressed growing interest in Regency England because of the popular Netflix show Bridgerton, by releasing an interview with the historian advisor to the show. The podcast is a great resource to hear from historians about key moments that shaped history, in a format that is much easier to consume than reading a book or watching a documentary.” – Tanvi Lolap
Finally, we’ve also listened to some podcasts which may appeal to a smaller niche of readers, but if anything about these topics interests you, we highly recommend checking these podcasts out!
The Dave Chang Show
“The Dave Chang Show is a food-centric podcast hosted by Dave Chang, chef of the Momofuku restaurants and creator of “Ugly Delicious”. Much like the Netflix show, this podcast dabbles in food as well as the stories behind them. He draws parallels from his personal life, shedding light on the Asian-American experience. I enjoy the podcast for the same reasons I enjoyed the show, it is an unpretentious journey. Chang interviews famous chefs to talk about things ranging from tater tots, to metal music, to Mexican cuisine in Denmark. Particularly during the pandemic, I recommend this podcast to those looking to vicariously eat around and travel the world.” – Sayalee Potdar
Reply-All
“If you’ve ever had questions about a weird web page or a confusing internet trend, chances are, Reply-All has covered it on one of their episodes. The show dedicates each episode to a detailed exploration of a low stakes internet mystery submitted by listeners, and also occasionally devotes time to covering high profile events and technology stories. One of my favorite episodes focuses on a man who is convinced that the song he can’t get out of his head was a popular song during his childhood, but no one else is able to remember the song. The hosts pursue every possible angle to get to the bottom of the mysterious song, going so far as to record a studio version of it based on the man’s description of the lyrics and tune. Since not every mystery can be solved, I should mention that some episodes do end without satisfactory answers to the questions posed at the beginning, but you’re guaranteed to learn something interesting along the way” – Dipack Panjabi
No Such Thing As a Fish
“An interesting fact about fish is that all the creatures we call fish today, didn’t in fact evolve from the same common ancestor. Every episode of No Such Thing As a Fish brings four unrelated and random facts like this one to listeners, along with a bunch of entertaining banter. If you enjoy collecting information that will almost certainly have no bearing on your daily life, look no further than this podcast. I’ve learned so many things from Fish – the origins of Tupperware parties, the fact that badminton shuttlecocks can only be made with feathers from the left wing of a goose, and that at 30 metres underwater, your lungs are a quarter of their size.” – Pallavi Patil
We hope one of these entertaining podcasts becomes a part of your daily routine, they’ve certainly made their way into ours!
